چکیده

Tumor growth and development involves interaction between tumor cells and extracellular matrix components characterized by cell proliferation, survival, migration into other tissues by invasion or metastasis. Migration of these tumor cells involve degradation of ECM which is facilitated by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Thus MMPs serve useful tool for early diagnosis, prognosis and survival of the disease. Active role of various MMPs in oral squamous cell carcinoma have been evaluated by previous researchers. In this review we depicted various details regarding MMPs as well as their role in oral cancer regarding different aspects and its importance as marker have been highlighted.

Expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase-2/9 and Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase-1/2 as Predictive Factors in Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Introduction: Metalloproteinases and their tissue inhibitors play an important role in the metastases formation. A multistage process of carcinogenesis requires the involvement of numerous enzymes and compounds that facilitate the expansion of tumor cells. The formation of metastases depends on both metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors activation leading to the acti...

Role of Brg1 in progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Objective(s): Epigenetic regulation of gene expression can be carried out through chromatin remodeling enzymes such as SWI/SNF. Brg1 also known as SMARCA4 is a catalytic subunit of SWI/SNF, which is necessary for MMPs expression. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are known as important player enzymes during tumor progression and metastasis. Aberrant epigenetic modification of chromatin should be...

Matrix Metalloproteinase Expression Significance on Oral squamous cell carcinoma Clinical Outcome

Introduction:Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is an invasive neoplasm with a high prevalence. Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) has been thought to play an important role in both the invasion and metastasis of tumors. The aim of this study was to explore the significance of MMPs expression in clinical outcome of these patients. Materials:The most recognized data Bases such as PubMed, Google sc...

Prognostic value of matrix metalloproteinases in oral squamous cell carcinoma

The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is a correlation between the expressions of four matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs): MMP-2, MMP-7, MMP-9 and MMP-13, and the TNM (tumour-node-metastasis) stages of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC); and to explore the implication of these MMPs in OSCC dissemination. Samples from 61 patients diagnosed with oropharyngeal tumour were studied b...

Comparison of MMP2 and MMP9 expression levels between primary and metastatic regions of oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) play important roles in tumor growth. The present study investigated the expression levels of MMP2 and MMP9 in relation to the distribution of TAMs in the primary and metastatic regions of oral squamous cell carcinoma. Twenty-nine cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) with regional lymph node metastasis were selecte...
